Plate to Face Series - Aquafaba Turmeric face mask

Plate to Face Series - Aquafaba Turmeric face mask

Today my daughter and I made the most delicious chickpea curry this weekend!

This meant we had some Aquafaba left. Aquafaba is the water the chickpeas comes in. It is a stable for vegans, as it can be used as egg whites and when whisked up with a little sugar to become meringues. Seriously mother nature is kickass sometimes.

So, instead of making a pudding I thought I would give our skin a treat and create a lovely nourishing calming face mask. This would help my skin though the temperature changes in these autumn months.

The face mask is super easy to make. All you need are 5 ingredients, 2 of which are optional, a large bowl and an electric whisk.

The main ingredient is Aquafaba, and when put on the skin, will naturally absorb any excess oils and impurities collected from the day. Not only this, but also a great way to shrink those pores.

Xanthan gum, though it's a powder, it will actually hydrate the skin. Turmeric powder contains antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties, and will detox your skin leaving it with a lovely glow (not a Bart Simpson glow before you ask haha). These two oils are optional, but I used Lavender as that helps with making your skin and soul feel super relaxed. Then, my most favourite of all oils, geranium rose, this wonder oil helps prevent premature ageing, hydrates and nourishes the skin.

This face mask recipe is great for all skin types and ages, and will make enough for 5 faces.

Ingredients and how to make it:

1 can Chickpea water
1 tsp Xanthan gum
1 tsp Turmeric powder
2 drops Lavender oil
3 drops Geranium oil

Place all the ingredients into one large bowl, whisk with an electric whisk until it resembles mayonnaise.

Apply face mask to a clean cleansed face, pat dry and gently tap the face mask on to your face.  Leave for 10 -15 minutes, remove with warm water, cleanse and moisturise as normal. I love to do this in the bath, but if you don't just be careful and wear dark or old clothing as turmeric does stain fabrics.

Store in a clean jam jar and place in the fridge, this fresh face mask will last up 2 weeks.
