I love hearing from you, the messages, the photos, the “is this normal?” questions. Honestly, you all make Olive & Joyce what it is, and you warm my heart while I just mix the oils.
Before I started creating my own products, I was right where many of you are now, standing at the bathroom mirror, surrounded by bottles that all promised healthy, glowing skin. I used my mum’s creams for years (she always believed in oil-based skincare), but like most people, I dabbled in the high street too. I tried the water-based ones that felt lovely at first but left my skin tight and thirsty by the afternoon. It wasn’t until I came back to oils that everything clicked into place and I realised that tight, thirsty skin wasn’t normal at all.
So I thought it was time to gather up some of the questions you ask most often and answer them properly, right here. The sort of chat we’d have if you were perched on my kitchen stool while I pottered about with a cup of tea in hand.
What makes Olive & Joyce different?
I created Olive & Joyce because I was tired of skincare that overpromised, underdelivered, and came in far too many bottles.
Our skincare is 100% natural, with no nasties, colourings or artificial scents. Everything’s vegan, cruelty free, palm oil free and sustainable. I even reuse the jars and bottles you send back to me.

Each product is designed to last you months, not weeks, so you’re saving time, money and landfill. It’s skincare that fits into real life, with two core products that give your skin everything it needs to stay happy and healthy.
It’s also deeply personal: named after my grandmothers, Olive and Joyce; inspired by my mum, who taught me everything I know about formulating; and made for all the family.
Why don’t you sell an eye cream?
Because, well, you don’t need one. The skin around your eyes is just skin, yes, slightly thinner, but not a separate species. Your Olive & Joyce face cream will do the job beautifully; just apply it gently to damp skin, right up to the eye area. Save your pennies and your shelf space.
I’ve started breaking out, does that mean oil based products don’t suit me?
Don’t panic. It’s called purging, and it’s actually a good sign.
When your skin starts getting the right nutrients, it speeds up its natural turnover, which can bring existing blockages to the surface. Think of it like your skin doing a spring clean. It can take up to a month (that’s how long your skin takes to renew itself), so stick with it.
You’re feeding your skin properly, just give it time to rebalance.
Are your products safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Yes, absolutely. I specifically chose essential oils that are safe for pregnant and nursing mothers. Everyone deserves gorgeous, healthy skin and no one deserves to stress about ingredients while they’re growing or feeding a tiny human.
Can I use Olive & Joyce on my children?
Absolutely. Our skincare is 100% natural and contains no chemicals, colourings or perfumes. The Exquisite range is especially gentle for little ones, as the scent is softer. Just double check the ingredients if your child has nut or latex allergies.
I have allergies, what should I watch out for?
Our cream based products contain unrefined shea butter, which can cause a reaction in those with latex allergies (rare, but worth noting). We also use sweet almond oil in some formulas, so proceed with caution if you have a nut allergy.
We’re transparent about everything, and you’ll always find full ingredient lists on our product pages.
Where do your ingredients come from?
We’re proud to say that we only support other small, family run businesses in the UK. That’s really important to me. My dad ran a small family business, as did my grandmother Olive and of course my mum too. I grew up understanding how much love and effort goes into that kind of work. Supporting others who share that ethos just feels right.
When will I see results?
Everyone’s different, but most people notice changes within a few days to six weeks. Remember, it takes roughly a month for your skin cells to renew, so patience is key. Keep with it. Good things (and good skin) take time.
My face feels a bit oily after using the cream, is that normal?
Totally. If you’ve never used oil based skincare before, it can feel strange at first because most commercial creams are water and alcohol based.
If it feels too oily, you’ve probably just used a little too much. Try using less, half a pea sized amount is plenty. It’s always easier to add more than to take away. Your skin will quickly find its balance.
However your skin behaves, remember this: it’s doing its best for you. Be kind to it, trust the process, and if you’re ever unsure, please message me. I love helping you get the best from your products.
