Skincare really doesn’t need to be complicated. To prove it, I’m about to share one of the easiest recipes I’ll ever post. It contains just one ingredient, and that ingredient is an avocado. Let me tell you why this little green fruit is such a skincare powerhouse.
Avocados are full to the brim with naturally occurring fatty acids that are essential for optimal skin health and repair. These fatty acids are packed with nutrients that help your skin stay smooth and youthful for longer.
Avocado also naturally hydrates and moisturises the skin, leaving behind a silky, nourishing layer of oil. These oils protect your skin from environmental toxins and help prevent dryness. Much like our Olive & Joyce products, which are oil based, this layer helps to lock in moisture. Skin that holds on to water stays supple, resilient and healthy, maintaining a strong barrier which is key to long term skin health.
In addition to keeping your skin hydrated, avocado helps calm inflammation caused by conditions such as psoriasis, hives, rashes, eczema and acne. Its healthy fats and oleic acid are naturally soothing. And the benefits don’t stop at the surface because when you eat avocados, their monounsaturated fats help your body produce collagen and increase skin elasticity too.
Avocados are amazing whether eaten or applied directly to the skin. I particularly love using a bruised or overripe one as the oils are even richer.
So here is the super quick, no fuss recipe that’s good for all skin types and ages.
You’ll need:
1 bruised avocado
1 fork
Take your bruised avocado and use a fork to mash it up. I like to use the avocado skin as a bowl since the flesh is usually so soft it needs very little effort. Mash it well until it reaches a creamy consistency.
Apply the creamed avocado to a freshly cleansed face and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes until it starts to harden slightly. Remove with a damp cloth, then oil cleanse and moisturise as normal.
